Hi, I’m Vanessa, aka The Sun Lounger!
I’m a summer-loving, holiday-craving journalist-turned-PR and mum of two beautiful young ladies in their 20s! My passport is always within reach and I dread the end of summer every year. I fully admit that I am addicted to travel.
Thankfully, being freelance and having my own PR business enables me to work remotely and so, I am more often than not either on holiday or planning another one, or planning a holiday while on holiday. That’s why I decided to combine my two of my loves: travel and writing.
Stewing in the hot tub one evening and feeling at a loose end, as we’d just lost our beloved family dog, I said I needed something to distract me and take my mind off the grief of losing my best friend, Monty, a flatcoated retriever. That’s when the idea of The Sun Lounger was born.

I got straight to work! My trips are mostly in Europe (I am a huge fan of le Touquet-Paris-Plage in northern France, which features a lot on The Sun Lounger, due to how much time I spend there), and my trips are realistic. I go away with my fab partner, my daughters, other family members, with girl pals and sometimes on my own, with the latest addition to our family, Pablo the podenco, a Spanish rescue dog who features in several of my blogposts. I aim to deliver home truths, but do so kindly, constructively and generally with a sense of humour! It’s not my aim to consistently write about the type of holidays we mostly dream of but can’t afford.
As well as writing about my favourite places to go (I am a huge fan of Spain and France and think we are so lucky in the UK to have the continent and all of its cultures, cuisines and different languages right on our doorstep), I will write realistic articles and provide tips on things like taking your elderly parents on holiday, dental tourism and trying to feed a vegan (my daughter) while in France. I won’t be posting photos of me in a wide-brimmed hat, watching hot air balloons at dawn. You know the sort.
This blog will also feature guest articles from my mates too, many of whom are journalists.

As a PR, I’ve spent several years of planning luxury press trips, which took me to some of the world’s best hotels – in Thailand, Dubai, Spain, Sicily, Capri and Croatia, for example. I’ve developed somewhat of a taste for five star, so you will never find me on a campsite, but this blog won’t be about luxury experiences which are out of reach. While I curse the cold weather and long for sun on my skin, I will also write about city breaks, Christmas markets and the like.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback too, so please leave comments, subscribe and follow on The Sun Lounger on social media:
That’s all for now. See you in the departure lounge…….
